Peche Island, Windsor, OntarioPosted by Tim (Delaware, Canada) on 4 April 2007 in Landscape & Rural. This is a picture taken on Peche Island, located where the Detroit River meets Lake St. Clair, between the cities of Windsor (Ontario) and Detroit (Michigan). The island is really peaceful in spite of being close to two cities, You can see the Detroit Renaissance Center in the distance. In the past, the island was a farm and a home to Hiram Walker (of liquour-making fame), who had a 54-room mansion built there. Right now, however, there is nothing but ruins of the mansion left. Access to the island, which is now a Windsor city park is by boat only.
